A committee of the Oregon state legislature will consider a bill that would sunset camera enforcement programs throughout the state by 2008. The bill's sponsor says the legislation is intended to stop cities like Beaverton, Oregon from violating the law. Beaverton Mayor Rob Drake had no comment.Under Senate Bill 153, those programs would end in Oregon in 2008, although the cities that use them -- including Beaverton -- can make the case before the 2007 Legislature that they should be extended.Source: Legislature aims at Beaverton's photo radar (The Oregonian, 1/25/2005)
State Sen. Rick Metsger, D-Welches, who introduced the bill, said its primary purpose is to hold Beaverton's leaders accountable should they continue to stretch or violate state law.
